Department of Finance - University Challenge

Posted by VP of Web Development SWB on Thursday, September 10, 2015
The Department of Finance extends to your members an invitation to participate in the University Challenge. The University Challenge uses the University of Illinois Securities Exchange Simulation (UISES) investment simulation you used in Finance 300 to give our students practical experience with investments outside the classroom.

The simulation provides each student with a $1,000,000 portfolio and an on-line brokerage account from which the student buys and sells equities. This is practise for when you have real money so there is no buying on margin (borrowing from your broker to buy stocks) or short selling (selling shares you don't own).

Prizes are offered for students that generate the highest rates of return on their simulated portfolios. The Challenge also tracks rates of return by College and by RSO. Can Phi Gamma Nu outperform Business Council? Can the Society of Women in Business outperform the Finance Club?

The challenge will run from Tuesday September 15 to Monday November 30, 2015.

The cost of the on-line investment portfolios will be undertaken by the Department's Financial Literacy Program.

To join in just go to the web site https://www.business.illinois.edu/FinancialLiteracy/UniversityStart.aspx, read the rules, and complete the on-line form. Investments begin Tuesday September 15.
